RULES FOR SAFE EQUESTRIAN ACTIVITIES
To provide members with a clear understanding of how The Village Club will operate its equestrian facility, and to assure that all members are treated fairly and equally, a set of rules and procedures are set forth below. These policies may be reviewed and revised as necessary by The Village Club Board.
Safety
- Safe horses are well-cared for horses. The Village Club provides feed and stable management. It is up to every owner to see that their horse is groomed and exercised a minimum of twice a week. Arrangements can be made with instructors and/or the manager for assistance in fulfilling this essential horse health care requirement.
- Boots or athletic shoes with heels are required for riding, walking horses or being in the barn.
- Riding helmets are required for mounted activities.
- Saddles must be used when jumping. NO bareback or bareback pads are allowed for this activity.
- Never ride alone. Make sure an adult or instructor is present, particularly when jumping.
- Permission must be obtained from a riding instructor or the manager to use any school horse or equipment.
- Anyone abusing his/her horse or a school horse will be asked to leave the Village Club.
- Always be considerate of others in the arena. When occupied, always ask before entering the arena. Move promptly to the center and never let your horse run loose. Time your entrance or departure to be the least inconvenient to others. Please respect the times scheduled for lessons by riding in the area of the ring not being used for lessons, and by not asking an instructor to give a lesson when he or she is not otherwise scheduled for ring time.
- Generally, riders should go around the arena in the same direction. If you must ride past another rider coming the opposite direction, pass left stirrup to left stirrup.
- Do not walk your horse between the tennis courts.
- Follow all Cherry Hills Parks & Trails regulations when riding off Village Club property. Do not ride on Kent Denver's fields.
- All children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by an adult or Village Club instructor when riding on the trails, or when going into the paddock area to catch a horse.
- Never put a horse away hot! Always cool off horses properly.
- No running, yelling or throwing of objects in the stable area.
- No visitors are allowed to ride without the Village Club's permission.
- No riding on Village Club property without a signed liability release.
- The Village Club, as a matter of procedure, does not provide supervision for children not immediately engaged in lessons, and does not encourage parents to drop off their children to entertain themselves in and around the areas used for riding and/or boarding horses. Riders who are unable to independently groom and tack up their horses will need to have the assistance of an adult; grooming and tacking are not the responsibility of the instructors or the barn staff.
If you have any questions, please contact the Club Manager or Barn Chairperson for further clarification.
These rules are made for the ultimate safety of Village Club members and their guests.
